A quiet connection

If the coat is patterned, begin with plain accessories. Pick a colour from the pattern or choose a clear contrast. Three nearly matching beiges can be more interesting than an identical set, but compare them in daylight. Woolly and smooth surfaces make the same colour appear different.

Against a plain dark coat, pale accessories stand out clearly. Decide whether all three should create that contrast or only the scarf. A light scarf with dark gloves can serve the day just as well as three pale pieces, particularly when gloves frequently touch bags or public transport surfaces.

Choose one prominent piece

A striped scarf already contains several colours. You can repeat one in the hat and connect the gloves to the coat. Every stripe does not need another appearance elsewhere. Check the scarf folded as you actually wear it, since some colours may then barely show.

If the hat supplies the strong colour, the scarf can stay quieter. Look at the combination with the coat fastened. An open coat reveals more of the inner outfit and can change the colour effect substantially. For a journey made with the coat closed, that is the relevant view.

Function before exact matching

Gloves need to suit your activities and fit comfortably. Do not choose a poorer-fitting pair solely for a perfect colour. Likewise, a scarf should not be so thick that the coat collar cannot close. All three accessories need to work with the outer garment.

Keep a complete combination together if you use it often. A photograph records the connection without permanently tying the pieces to one another. The outfit remains quick to assemble while individual items can still be used separately with another coat or in different weather.
