Inspect the whole item
Look at front, back, inside and frequently stressed areas. Check seams, underarms, collar, cuffs and hem, as well as pockets and fastenings. Empty every compartment. Even a small inner pocket in a jacket or bag may contain personal belongings.
Note stains, holes, abrasion, missing buttons and other changes you find. Distinguish observation from assumption. If you do not know whether a mark can be removed, describe it rather than promising effortless cleaning.
Choose cleaning and repairs deliberately
Follow the care label and actual material for cleaning. Treating something with an unsuitable product just for a photograph can worsen its condition. If cleaning has not been done, the description should honestly reflect that state.
A loose button may be properly reattached, while a larger alteration requires more work. Decide what you will genuinely complete and document any remaining defects. Do not hide a flaw inside a fold or beneath an accessory simply to make the picture calmer.
Provide information for the next person
Photograph the entire garment in clear light. Add close views of the material label, stated size, special details and existing flaws. Represent the colour as you see it; strong filters make assessment harder.
Give measurements when useful for fit and explain how they were taken. A waistband measured flat differs from a circumference. Mention known alterations. Do not invent fibre proportions or origin information when a label is missing.
Choose the appropriate route
When passing something to someone you know, you can show its condition directly. For donations or collection points, check current acceptance conditions before preparing a whole bag. Not every organisation accepts every textile type or condition.
For a sale, follow the actual requirements of the chosen platform and keep pictures consistent with the description. This preparation does not replace checking its applicable rules. Pack the item only after its condition and information are settled, keeping matching belts, straps or detachable components with the right garment.
A brief final check prevents personal belongings from leaving with the item or useful accessories being left behind. It can then move on in an organised way without presenting its properties as better than they are.
